Company History

Beacon’s journey from a small regional firm with 32 employees to a corporation with more than 500 locations and $7 billion in revenue started in Charlestown, Massachusetts in 1928. From those early days to now, Beacon has been a trusted building materials supply partner for contractors and their businesses throughout North America. 

1928 

“Beacon Sales Company” is established in Charlestown, MA. 

1953 

Beacon celebrates its 25th Anniversary. A state-of-the-art facility is built in Somerville, MA. 

1960 

Allied was formally established in 1960 when Bob Feury Sr. joined. 

1978 

Beacon celebrates its 50th Anniversary. 

1993 

Dealer’s Choice was founded by JGA to sell to lumberyards. 

1997 

Code, Hennessy & Simmons purchase a majority interest and Beacon Roofing Supply was formed. Seven Branches generated $72 million in annual sales. 

1998 

Beacon makes its first acquisition, purchasing Quality Roofing Supply in Pennsylvania for $51 million. Beacon now has 14 branches. 

1999 

Beacon establishes Beacon Roofing Supply Canada and grows to 21 total branches. 

2000 

Beacon acquires Best Distributing, serving the Carolinas. This acquisition increases Beacon’s size by 67%. Beacon now has 38 branches. 

2001 

Beacon acquires The Roof Center & West End Lumber, increasing the size of the company by 60%. Beacon now has 60 branches. 

2002 

Beacon surpasses $500 million in revenue for the first time. 

2003 

Robert Buck joins Beacon as its New President and CEO 

2004 

Beacon goes public with an initial public offering (Nasdaq: BECN). Beacon now has 67 branches. This year, Beacon also acquires JGA Corp and their operations in Georgia and Florida. 

2005 

Beacon acquires Shelter Distribution for $313 million, adding 50 branches in 14 Midwestern and Southern States, for a total of 137 branches. Sales surpass $850 million. 

2006 

Beacon acquires Pacific Supply, Mississippi Roofing Supply, Alabama Roofing Supply, Roof Depot and RSM Supply. Beacon now has 156 branches and surpasses $1 billion YTD net sales. 

2007 

Paul Isabella is hired as the Chief Operating Officer of Beacon. Robert Buck is appointed chairman after Andrew Logie retires. 

2007 

Beacon acquires North Coast 

2008 

Allied Solar is introduced into the market 

2009 

Beacon adds branches in Oklahoma and New Mexico 

2010 

Beacon acquires Independent Building Materials in Florida, Phoenix Sales, Inc. in Florida, Louisiana Supply of Baton Rouge in Louisiana, and Posi-Slope in Canada. Paul Isabella is appointed CEO. 

2011 

Beacon acquires The Roofing Connection in Canada and Fowler & Peth, Inc in Colorado. 

2012 

Beacon reaches $2 billion YTD net sales. 

2015 

Beacon acquires Roofing Supply Group, and launches Peak Private Label, later merging it with TRI-BUILT® (via Allied) 

2016 

Beacon surpasses $4 billion in annual sales 

2017 

Beacon launches a suite of digital tools with Beacon Pro+ and Beacon 3D+ 

2018 

Beacon acquires Allied Building Products for $2.6 billion. Beacon Track is launched, allowing customers to track their orders and be alerted digitally.
