At Beacon, we recognize that growth and progress must be balanced against social responsibility, environmental awareness, and the health and wellness of our employees. To help builders build better in their communities, we invest in programs and policies that reflect this commitment to sustainability.
We invest in change that has a lasting impact. Through volunteer and fundraising efforts on behalf of the Boys and Girls Club and Habitat for Humanity, Beacon leads by example for our employees, customers, and members of the community. We are also proud to contribute to the Roofing Alliance for Progress’ Melvin Krugen Endowed Scholarship Program to help those pursuing careers in building and construction.
When disaster strikes in our local communities, we take action. In 2017, Hurricanes Harvey and Irma devastated parts of Texas and Florida. We acted to ensure the safety of our employees and their families, paying the salaries of affected employees when branches were closed, helping to generate tax credits, and supporting our nationwide network of employees as they raised money to help those in need.
We play an important role in the stewardship of the environment, and the long-term success of our business is dependent on how seriously we take that role. We are continuously investing in innovative new ways to reduce our carbon footprint and do our part in protecting the planet for the next generation.
We’ve explored alternative fuel options within our fleet and are continuously investing in technology to modernize and reduce emissions in our vehicles. New vehicles purchased all have Certified Clean Idle diesel engines, and in-cab technology helps to manage idle time, vehicle routing, empty mileage, preventive maintenance scheduling, and driver habits that impact fuel consumption.
We have invested in processes to minimize waste and ensure meticulous compliance with local recycling and hazardous waste disposal guidelines. We also work with local energy providers to install warehouse lighting upgrades and provide resources and support for our suppliers to follow the same guiding principles to reduce waste in their business processes.
We are guided by a set of core values and founding principles that clearly define our commitment to our employees, customers, and communities. That means making the safety and wellness of our employees our number one priority at all times, while embodying a sense of honesty and integrity in the work we do.
We believe that the traits of a successful business are grounded in a culture of excellence driven by a strong work ethic, respect and empowerment of those we work with, a team-oriented spirit, and a commitment to deliver on our promises in the face of any and all challenges.
